Minnesota Lacrosse Magazine’s Game of the Week will highlight one game per week that stood out as a competitive game, a big upset, or just a game we’d like to highlight.
This week, the game being highlighted occurred on Saturday, April 12th in Grand Rapids at Grand Rapids High School. Chisago Lakes traveled up to Grand Rapids to compete in a close lacrosse game.
Both the Chisago Lakes Wildcats and Grandrapids/Greenway (GRG) girls lacrosse programs have been growing more competitive in recent seasons, bringing more competitive play to areas north of the cities.
The first quarter was close, with the score being tied 3-3. After the break, the two teams would tie again in the second quarter 2-2, heading into half time in a tie game. Chisago Lakes out scored GRG in the third quarter 2-1. The final quarter of the game, each team scored 3 goals. Chisago came out of the game with a win by one goal, with a final score of 10-9.
Player of the Game
Each week, we will also name a Player of the Game. Lauren Schmidt #5-Chisago Lakes is our Player of the Game. Schmidt scored two goals, had two assists and three ground balls. Schmidt led the Wildcats in points for the close game against GRG.
Honorable Mention Game
Each week we will also highlight a second game that was a close contender for Game of the Week. Our Honorable Mention Game of the Week for girls lacrosse is Minnetonka’s defeat over Maple Grove. Both teams were ranked in the Top 10 in the state for the pre-season rankings. Minnetonka is currently ranked 5th, Maple Grove ranked 9th. Minnetonka outscored Maple Grove 8-4. The two teams will become familiar foes as Maple Grove is joining the Lake Conference in 2026.
