On Saturday, April 11, the Blaine Bengals traveled to Mahtomedi High School to face the Zephyrs in a competitive non-conferencr game to start to the 2026 lacrosse season.
These two programs have not faced off during the regular season in recent history, making this a new matchup between unfamiliar foes.
According to laxnumbers.com, Mahtomedi was ranked #19 in the state last season and Blaine was ranked #23 in the state last season.
Their game on April 11, would showcase how close their skill level is and how competitive both of these programs are in Minnesota.
The Blaine Bengals came out on top with a final score of 5-4. According to the stat sheet on mnlaxhub, the goal scorers for the Bengals included: Grant Frischmon (1), Steven Axelrod (1), Weston Johnson (1 G, 1A), Wyatt Parent (1 G, 1A), Logan Vang (1).
Evan Omer won three faceoffs for the Bengals with a FO% of 27.27%.
Goalie Riley Therres faced 15 shots from the Zephyrs offense and made 11 saves for a 73% save percentage. Blaine Coach Alex Johnson nominated Therres for Player of the Game. Johnson shared Therres had a few starts last season and showed his growth from last season in their game against Mahtomedi.
